The Berlin Mathematical School (BMS) Scholarships 2027 support outstanding students pursuing advanced studies and doctoral research in mathematics in Berlin. The BMS is a joint graduate school involving Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and Technische Universität Berlin. For the 2027 intake, applicants can apply for Phase I, which corresponds to the BMS Master’s-level program, or Phase II, which is the doctoral research phase. The BMS offers a maximum of 10 Phase I scholarships per year, currently providing €1,000 per month for 1+18 months, with a possible extension. These scholarships are tax-free and do not include health insurance. Applicants entering Phase II must secure funding for at least three years. Funding can come from research projects, university positions, MATH+ projects, external scholarships or other research institutions. The BMS assists applicants in finding suitable funding opportunities. For applicants seeking admission with a Phase I scholarship, the 1 December 2026 deadline applies. The program is taught entirely in English, and applicants who do not qualify for an English-language exemption must provide accepted English proficiency evidence.
