The Honjo International Scholarship Foundation (HISF) Scholarship for Foreign Students 2027 supports international students who are studying or planning to study for a Master's or doctoral degree at a Japanese graduate school. Applications for the 2027 scholarship cycle are open from 1 September 2026 until 31 October 2026. The programme is open to non-Japanese citizens of all nationalities and welcomes applicants from all research fields. Applicants may apply directly to the Foundation without university pre-selection, and applications can be submitted from outside Japan if the applicant has been accepted to a Japanese graduate school. The scholarship provides a non-repayable monthly stipend based on the minimum period required to complete the degree: ¥230000 per month for a 1–2 year degree, ¥210000 per month for a 3-year degree, and ¥180000 per month for a degree longer than 3 years. HISF also provides a travel grant for international conference participation according to its scholarship rules. The scholarship does not cover university tuition fees or initial travel expenses such as a flight to Japan. Selection includes document screening and an interview. The Foundation expects approximately ten students to receive the scholarship. Applicants should review the official 2027 guidelines carefully and prepare the required application materials before the deadline.
